Volcano Type
Mt Tambora is a stratovolcano. A stratovolcano (also known as a composite volcano) is a volcano built up of alternate layers of lava and ash. They have a very steep slope. Stratovolcanoes are formed by large, violent explosions. They are very dangerous.
Another type of volcano is the shield volcano. These volcanoes can be very high but also hundreds of kilometres across. Shield volcanoes almost always have large craters at their summits.
